From 1928-1929 the brand decided to establish itself within the car industry, making cars like the Dixi 3-15 DA which was one of their first production cars.

Despite the Great Depression, the popularity of the Dixi 3-15 DA helped to tide BMW through an event that destroyed countless companies.

Just 6 years later in 1936 BMW returned with the BMW type roadster, which was an instant hit and one of the most popular sports car models of its time.

In the years following 1949, BMW set about creating new models such as the 502,502 and V8 engines like the 507 and the 1500 as well as the BMW 1600, 1800 and 2002.

These models helped to establish BMW as a sports car manufacturing market leader and following 1970 the car maker became the world leading international manufacturer of innovative cars that they are today.

In their early years, the BMW's New Class, a series of cars from sedans to sporting coupes, were created and developed right up until 2002.

It was the success of the New Class cars that really established the company as the global brand that it has now become.

All of the cars in the New Class range had the same four-cylinder M10 BMW engine; they also boasted an independent suspension system and front disc brakes that give the cars and added element of high-class safety.

Recent models from this range include the X3 SUV and the 3 and 7 Series cars.

The mid-sized executive BMW 3 Series is one example of an enduring model that is now in its fifth generation. It was so popular that it is now been adapted and is available as the sporty E90 and E93 as well as the E92 coupe and the E91 station wagon. It has even been adapted into the 5 Series Gran Turismo, which is a fusion of a station wagon and a crossover SUV.

Perhaps the most popular executive sedan from BMW is the 7 Series and it has even caused a number of models to be made as offshoots. This has much to do with the success of the iDrive system as it was the first car in BMW's range to use a hydrogen fuelled internal combustion engine, which leaves no emissions besides water.

The first crossover model to be made by BMW is the X3 SUV which is an off-road vehicle in the same vein as Land Rover and Jeep. These "Sports Activity Vehicles" or "Sports Activity Coupe" have been continually improved with a range of new models being introduced and the public coming to associate BMW as an all round car manufacturer rather than just a sport coupe manufacturer. It is also a model that has caused waves, with superb handling, great performance and innovative features.

BMW is keen as a manufacturer to create environmental efficiency within its vehicles. BMW has aligned itself as a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and it has additional responsibilities in an initiative called the South Carolina Environmental Excellence Program.

In fact, BMW has taken measures to seriously reduce the CO2 output of their vehicles, by making a couple of alternative fuels and engines with increased efficiency. These have been installed in the newer models, which are currently available to buy or you may prefer instead.
