Even the innocent looking tablecloth can make havoc if a baby is involved.
It is usually a greater idea to move around in the house and spend time watching things from the viewpoint of a child, when thinking of making some improvements in your house. Get down and then determine if any furniture or electrical items can provide detrimental threat to your child as they start crawling and moving around the house.
Electricity is hazardous just as it is also a necessity, hence, the best one can do is to protect the family from its negative effects. Never make use of appliances near water, because if they are left unattended, children can touch both of them resulting in a catastrophe. To prevent the child from touching the current lead inside them, it is advisable to install oulet covers.
Each one of the electrical cords should be taped down, and cords on the blinds and curtains must be upped to keep them out of the reach of kids. Cord shorteners could be installed on blind cords and curtains. All it requires are minutes to go into a room and make changes to improve child safety greatly.
All household cleaners and medications may be harmful and should be kept out of the reach of kids. Simple looking items, such as nail polish and bath oils, can be hazardous if ingested by the toddler. Each one of these can be locked away in a high cabinet.
Small items, for instance, paperclips and coins on the countertops, must be removed. Children may easily reach such items and so they can easily put them in their mouth, which is often really dangerous. In the same way, all glass objects and knives need to be stored in cabinets, as kids are interested in shiny and bright objects. Almost all drawers and latched doors in the lower cabinets in your house should be locked because they can be opened by the child easily.
Anybody can even fit cupboards with small catches so that they can be opened a small distance. This would not let a child put their arms or hands inside or even crawl inside them. Safety gates can be installed at places one wants to keep out of the reach of children, such as stairs, bathrooms, and the kitchen.
It is best if one can update the child safety door locks and other safety measures every six months. A first aid kit should be kept ready at home for emergencies. They can be purchased from any sporting goods store. Aside from this, it is a good idea to install edge guards at various places to safeguard the child from grievous injuries. |
